Glyphosate Check: Home Collection Test Kit

Test your exposure to glyphosate, the most widely used weed killing chemical on farms, lawns, schoolyards and golf courses. Join others in this exciting crowd-sourced research project to learn about ourselves, our food system, and our environment.

Choose the test that is right for you:

Urine testing provides a measure of your near-term exposure (3 – 7 days). The test also provides a window into the longer term if your diet and environment do not vary much over time.

Hair testing provides a measure of your longer-term exposure (2 – 3 months) and is ideal if your food and environment vary a lot over time. For example, if a person eats organic food at home and conventional food while traveling, the hair test result will provide an average for these exposures over a few months. Please note that hair that is bleached, dyed or exposed frequently to chlorinated pools may have diminished glyphosate levels.Glyphosate Tested - 3natural Bionutrition

A great deal has been learned about the impacts of glyphosate on health and the environment. Yet, a great deal more needs to be understood. One of the big questions is what are the routes through which people become exposed to glyphosate. Exposure could be happening through many channels, including, the food you eat, the water you drink and the places where you live and play.

Some sources may deliver higher amounts of glyphosate than others. For example, there is evidence that non-organic oats are often sprayed with glyphosate before harvest to kill and dry out the plants, making it easier to harvest the grain. Many varieties of genetically modified soybeans are also sprayed with glyphosate-based herbicides to kill weeds—as often as four times per growing season. The relative importance of these potential sources of contamination is not known. We are conducting the Glyphosate Environmental Exposure Study in order to understand sources of contamination more accurately.Agricultural Use of Glyphosate in the United States - 2012

Your participation in this study—both by submitting a sample and by filling out the short online survey—will contribute in a very important way to the depth of data that we can gather. So far, we have tested samples from more than 1000 subjects. Our goal is at least 10,000. A subject population of that scope will assure that the results are highly accurate and meaningful.

Health Research Institute’s test for glyphosate is the most sensitive and most affordable screen for glyphosate available in North America. It also screens for AMPA, the main metabolite of glyphosate, at no extra cost. This is important because it is necessary to take both glyphosate and AMPA into account to more fully assess exposure to glyphosate.

After you order, we’ll send you a sample collection kit by U.S. mail. For the urine test, collect a sample just as you would at your doctor’s office, pack it in the leak-proof container provided, and drop in any mailbox with our prepaid shipper. For the hair test, collect a sample at home or during a hair cut and return with our prepaid envelope.

Your sample will travel to our laboratory, where we’ll test it with a highly sensitive liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS). You can expect to get your results by encrypted email 2-3 weeks after we receive your sample. FREE ROUNDTRIP SHIPPING IN THE USA.

In addition to submitting your sample, we ask you to complete an online survey that provides information such as age, diet, geographical location, and participation in activities that might increase your chances of exposure to glyphosate. By correlating glyphosate levels with this kind of demographic data, we hope to learn more about avenues through which people are exposed to glyphosate. So, for the research, filling out the questionnaire is just as important as submitting the urine sample.

The results from all participants in the study will be aggregated and anonymized. As the number of subjects expands, we will publish summaries of the data that will hopefully provide new insights into glyphosate exposure.

So, please join the study! Your test results and demographic information will make a big difference when combined with others in our nationwide glyphosate exposure study! Check back periodically to see trends and average results and watch for occasional email updates.

The limit of detection (LOD) of Health Research Institute’s test for glyphosate in urine is 0.02 parts per billion (ppb) and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) is 0.05 ppb. The LOD for our test for AMPA in urine is 0.013 ppb and the LOQ for AMPA is 0.05 ppb.

Worldwide, the public, independent scientists, innovative businesses and policy leaders are calling for healthy, environmentally sensitive and humanely produced foods, foods free from environmental contaminants, agrochemical residues, adulterants and additives, and for cleaner air, water and soil.

In service to these goals, the Health Research Institute (HRI) carries out scientific research and applies advanced analytical tools to help you to detect and quantify substances present in food, water, soil and even the human body. We provide tools for characterizing both constituents that are more nourishing, nutritious and health-promoting and those that may be harmful to health and the environment.

Authoritative laboratory testing is a powerful tool that has been used to detect and quantify the presence of pesticides, GMOs, antibiotics and other substances. Testing is also increasingly used to evaluate the contribution of regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices to improved nutritional value of crops and even delivery of higher nutrition to the consumer.

HRI Labs offers accredited, high quality and rigorous testing using the most advanced technologies. We also operate as a 501(c)3 non-profit which enables us to provide testing and custom research at more affordable prices.

The lab features:

  • Advanced analytical instrumentation equivalent in power and sensitivity to the instrumentation found in the best research and commercial laboratories.
  • Accreditation to globally respected standards—certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments act of 1988 (CLIA-88) to perform high complexity clinical testing (CLIA ID 16D2122655); ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited for testing by PJLA (Accreditation #92657).
  • Policies that assure strict confidentiality of client identity and analytical results.
